Frequently Asked Questions
No, we do not provide free consultations. Our consultations are paid and provide us with enough time and information to give you a thorough and accurate legal opinion on your employment, labor, business, or civil litigation matter.
Currently, our consultation prices range between $600-750, depending on the attorney, and include up to one hour’s worth of legal consultation by telephone or Zoom, whichever the client prefers, and review of relevant documentation (excluding contracts). Contract reviews are priced separately and depend on the complexity and length of the contract. These prices are subject to change. Please confirm with us by filling out a contact form by clicking here, it will take you to the “Contact Us” portion of our website.
We will provide you with up to one hour of legal consultation with a Lipp Law attorney by phone or Zoom, whichever you prefer, to assess the facts of your matter, determine your potential legal claims and understand your legal rights, help you strategize your legal options, and develop a plan of action for you moving forward. Please note that a consultation does not guarantee further representation after the consultation.
We aim to schedule consultations within 1-2 weeks of being retained, which includes signing an engagement agreement with our firm, and paying the consultation or retainer fee.
Our caseload varies depending on the time of year and by attorney.
We are not able to accommodate same day consultations.
Our intake form, located at the “Contact Us” portion of our website here, includes information that we need to evaluate whether we can represent you. The information is kept confidential and only circulated internally to members of the firm.
The contact form information goes to Katie Lipp, the Owner of Lipp Law, and our Firm Relations Manager, Kara Richards. We then circulate this to the other attorneys at Lipp Law, and each attorney confirms there is no conflict with the potential legal representation. We also cross check adverse party information with our firm’s case management system to ensure that there is no conflict of interest with the representation. While conflicts are rare, they do happen, because we represent both employers and employees, and have been practicing law in the DMV area for many years. The last thing we want is to waste your time by speaking with you if we are unable to represent you due to a conflict, or if your case is a matter that we aren’t the best fit for.
Yes, we completely understand your concern for confidentiality, and we do not circulate your information to any third parties. Since it is shared through a web form, we have standard disclaimer language on our website, but we do everything we can to keep your information confidential.
No, when we consider taking on employee-side cases, we would never contact your employer unless you authorize us to. Even when we negotiate with an employer, it is typically through the employer’s legal counsel.
Yes, although most of our work is billed on an hourly basis, we occasionally take cases on a contingency fee structure. This type of arrangement involves taking a percentage of a settlement or award, which can typically range between 25-40% depending on the type of case and when the case settles or when an award is rendered.
We evaluate each case to determine whether legal violations have occurred. The more legal violations there are based on the evidence of your case, the higher the potential for damages to be awarded is, and the more likely it is that we can offer a contingency fee arrangement. However, we only take a certain percentage of contingency cases at our firm, and sometimes even if your case is strong, we are unable to offer a contingency fee arrangement.
Sometimes we will offer a hybrid fee arrangement, where you pay a certain amount of money to the firm up front or throughout your case, and we take a smaller fee percentage when the case settles or when an award occurs.
Each case is different, but we do offer contingency or hybrid fee structures when we can.
Currently, our attorney hourly rates range from $425-$525 per hour, depending on the attorney. These prices are subject to change. Please confirm with us by filling out a contact form. By clicking here, it will take you to the “Contact Us” portion of our website.
Typically, yes, we prefer reviewing contracts on a flat fee basis. Sometimes we are unable to provide you with a flat fee proposal – particularly if the contract is unusual or complicated in nature. Please reach out to us by clicking here to start the process of getting a contract review completed by our firm – we would be happy to see if we can assist you.
It is difficult to track or divulge a specific “success rate,” because each individual case is unique, and for any settlements we are restricted by confidentiality agreements and attorney-client privilege in sharing the specific outcomes and facts of what occurred. The reason that some law firms can announce their awards is because they occur in open court after a full trial, and the outcome is public knowledge. Most of our cases settle, either before a lawsuit is filed, at the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) stage, or after a decision on a Motion for Summary Judgment is handed down, so we are limited in our ability to publicly share case outcomes.
However, we believe that this question is completely valid, and we tried to answer it by giving general descriptions of our case outcomes in our individual attorney profiles. You can access those below.
